Frequently asked questions

At McGill Coastal Notary, we are committed to providing exceptional and transparent notary services across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We've compiled a list of questions our clients frequently ask to help you understand our services better, from ID requirements to how our mobile and remote online notarizations work. If your question isn't answered here, please feel free to contact us directly!

What are the most common questions people ask about notary services?

ID & legality

  • IDs needed: You will need a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.
  • Legal advice: Notaries cannot give legal advice or explain the meaning of any document.
  • Document validity: Our stamp proves who signed the document, not that the contract itself is legal or enforceable.

Witnesses & remote signing

  • Witness rules: Clients must bring their own witnesses if required; a notary cannot act as a witness.
  • Remote signings: These are conducted via secure live video with digital IDs and electronic stamps for your convenience.

What should people know about your pricing or how to book an appointment?

Transparent pricing

  • State compliance: Base fees strictly follow the Mississippi legal cap of $5.00 per standard notarial stamp.
  • Format-based options: Control your budget by choosing between flat-rate in-home packages, mobile travel tiers, or cost-effective remote online sessions.
  • Upfront quotes: You will always receive a full, complete price estimate before your session begins, guaranteeing zero hidden or surprise fees.
  • Community discounts: Permanent travel-fee discounts are built into the business model for local military members, first responders, and senior citizens.

Seamless booking process

  • 24/7 digital scheduling: Skip the phone tag by viewing real-time availability and locking in your appointment instantly online.
  • Flexible hours: Appointments are available during standard business hours, evenings, and weekends to fit into your busy life.
  • Proactive prep alerts: Once booked, you will receive automated text or email reminders detailing exactly what valid, unexpired photo ID you need to have.

Are there any questions unique to how McGill Coastal Notary provides services?

Mobile & in-home

  • Meeting locations: We can meet anywhere safe with a flat writing surface, such as homes, offices, coffee shops, or libraries.
  • Travel calculation: A flat, transparent fee based on distance will be quoted entirely upfront.
  • Document printing: Documents can be emailed to us, printed professionally, and brought directly to your home.

Remote online (RON)

  • Software requirements: No downloads needed; sessions run securely through a standard web browser link.
  • Out-of-state signing: Fully legal even if you are traveling out-of-state or internationally during the session.

What advice or important information do you often share with clients before notarizing documents?

ID & document readiness

  • Strict ID checks: Please bring an original, unexpired government photo ID that matches the name on your document.
  • No blank spaces: Fill out all text blocks ahead of time, leaving only the signature lines blank.

Legal boundaries

  • Zero legal advice: Notaries are impartial witnesses and cannot explain document meanings.
  • Bring witnesses: If your document requires witnesses, clients must provide them independently.

Signer capacity

  • Alert & willing: All signers must be fully conscious, unmedicated, and signing of their own free will.
